Everything on a Grid Devlog #2: Chess Implemented
Hey there!
Everything on a Grid! now has chess pieces! It won't be a grid puzzle without chess, right?
It was quite a challenge to implement chess logic into this whole salad of mechanics. For the technical aspect: a custom bitboard was written to work with customizable grid size, as well as every other objects in the game that aren't a chess piece. Some chess rules were modified a bit to make it work with different grid (don't worry, en passant is still a thing!)
I have lots of ideas for puzzles involving these new pieces as well as old objects. With so many objects to be added, one challenge I have is to make sure all of them have about the same screen time as others. Of course, some mechanics will shine more than other, but I don't want any early aspect of the game to be completely ignored when the game approaches its end. This is a game about Everything, after all.
Right now my priority is to make more puzzles with these chess pieces, then I'll move on to the next mechanic, which will probably either be Match-3 or Scrabble.
